Will martial arts, karate make my child aggressive or violent?
No way! In fact, it's just the opposite. Martial arts makes kids calmer and more respectful than ever. Children who have a positive outlet for their energy, who are taught self control and who participate in activities that boost their confidence and self esteem, have proven to be calmer, less prone to violent outbursts and more easily able to resolve conflict without becoming physical. They are also taught to understand that with acquired skill comes responsibility.
Martial arts is about peace, helpfulness and disciplined respect, not violence & disrespect.
Can I or my child get injured with martial arts, karate?
As a parent, you know that kids can get injured doing just about anything. Martial arts is no different, however we take safety very seriously here. We do everything in our power to avoid injuries. We have excellent instructors and assistants who are ALWAYS keeping a very close eye on everything going on to ensure safety.
Our curriculum is designed to help students achieve their absolute very best, but to also be very aware of their safety.
How often should I, my child attend class?
We recommend regular attendance of 2 times a week to progress and get the most out of our program. (2 times a week is what we consider perfect attendance). You are welcome to attend as many classes a week as you like.
We have classes 5 days a week to fit into everyone's schedule.
Can I or my child do martial arts, karate if he/she is not the athletic type?
Yes! Martial arts is for athletes and non-athletes alike. In fact, martial arts is often a “home” for kids who don't excel at team sports. Kids who have trouble in baseball, basketball, etc. often come to martial arts and do extremely well. And it's okay if your child is not athletic right now. Through our classes, they'll get in great shape and become very athletic. There are no bench warmers at our academy! Just awesome students & families.
When do martial arts classes start, is it a seasonal sport?
Training at Goshen Martial Arts is more than just a seasonal sport , it's actually not a sport at all, but a continuous life changing adventure, where you & your child will learn to Win at Life. We have new students starting every day, so even if you're the new student today, someone else will be new tomorrow.
What do I wear to class, when do I get the uniform?
We believe in having students earn their uniform. This sets the foundation & mindset of working hard to achieve a goal, similar to working hard to achieve each belt stripe & belt rank advancement.
For the Free Trial Class students simply wear sweatpants & a t-shirt. When students sign up for our beginner special (our confidence building course), they receive a Free Goshen Martial Arts t-shirt to be worn during class.
After the completion of the confidence course, students who have worked hard and are chosen to continue with our program will be awarded their uniform during a graduation ceremony.
Are your martial arts, karate classes fun?
Absolutely! After all, everyone loves to have fun. We incorporate a variety of games and activities into each class that have kids, and adults constantly smiling, sweating, and learning. We work hard here - but we play just as hard.
We work extremely hard to have a great balance between fun & educational learning for the students & great value for the parents.
How does testing work, and are there fees associated with testing for rank?
No, we do not charge our students for testing for rank at our academy. Each student advances at their own pace, with Attendance and Effort being the keys to regular advancement. You will progress through a series of stripe promotions, and after showing proficiency in each curriculum area, students earn their next belt rank.
Do you fight or spar in class?
No, we don't "Fight". What we do is work on body control and help students learn the value of self-respect and respect of others.
We do spar, and sparring is an important part of a student's training. It is non-contact, and it helps each student develop Courage, Confidence, Focus, and Body Control.
Sparring is not part of our Tiny Tigers or Junior's Class curriculum, it is included in our Junior Advanced through Adult class curriculum. No student engages in this aspect of their training until after he or she has demonstrated that they have the proper skills and foundation needed. Students wear protective gear including gloves and helmets (available for purchase at the studio) when sparring.
Are all Karate studios the same?
NO! There is a HUGE difference in our academy and with the exceptional program we offer our students. You'll notice the difference the moment you walk in the door. The warm family atmosphere, the smiling faces, the cleanliness, the respect, manners & discipline of the students & staff and the overall experience that is meant to make each and every family member feel comfortable and happy to be there.
What's the difference between Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, Aikido, Jiu Jitsu, Kenpo, Karv Maga, MMA, etc...?
The difference in style isn't nearly as important as the quality of the instruction being taught.
There are so many styles that a person could spend a lifetime trying to figure out which one is best for them. Our program has nice combination of each of the styles (and then some) listed above. The primary influence is from Tang Soo Do. (This is the style that Chuck Norris Mastered in.)
Does your program cost the same as other places?
Our tuition is based on the irreplaceable values, vision & purpose of our one of a kind life skills & character development program, and our highly trained, exceptional Martial Arts Instructors.
We don't know what other places charge, but I'm sure it's based on the value & quality of their program.
You will clearly see, feel & experience the difference the moment you walk in our door.
How much does it cost, can I afford it, and what are the values I receive from your program?
YES, you can afford it, and once you see the values our program instills, you'll realize you can't afford not to be a part of our program.
The 1st night is completely FREE to see how our program can benefit you & your child, and why our program is so effective in helping each student live their best possible life. After the Free trial class and private lesson we encourage parents to sign up for our Beginner's Special, Only $49. This is an excellent opportunity to experience all the wonderful benefits of our one of kind life skills & character development program for 4 entire weeks. (Attend up to 5 times a week).
The values you and your family receive are limitless, and the long term benefits of our program are priceless (especially when you consider the positive impact our program has on you & your child's life, both now & in the future).
We are very cognitive that most families are on a certain budget and therefore we charge far less than the true value of our program to make it affordable for families who truly want to give their child the absolute best.
